A visit to the fascinating city of Dresden on the Elbe River is not only a city visit but also a journey into a unique art and cultural world. In addition to the wonderful famous buildings, Dresden offers museums of world-renown as well as music and theater halls with a great history, or the nearby porcelain city of Meissen.
Yet Dresden has so much more to offer. Here, nature has created a truly special landscape with the high peaks of the eastern Erz Mountains, the sandstone rocks of Saxon Switzerland and the chain of hills spanning the Lausitzer mountain region setting a fascinating contrast to the wetlands of the Elbe.
And in the course of history mankind has added to the beauty with the parks and gardens, the fertile vineyards and magnificent river promenades. But Dresden has much to offer not only for those interested in culture, but also for families with children – there is something for everyone to discover. Museums where kids can touch things, children’s theater and fairy tale time, the “Himmelsleiter” (Sky ladder) and “Teufelsstiege” (Steep devil’s track), and even the South Seas have relocated to the largest hall in the world about 1,5 hours from Dresden, featuring everything that is typically featured on postcards and in travel catalogs.
